The Biology Study Program at Bangka Belitung University (Prodi Biologi UBB) was established in 2006, alongside the increasing rate of mining, particularly tin mining. The high rate of environmental degradation caused by tin mining and the numerous biological potentials that had not been properly utilized served as the background for the establishment of the Biology Study Program.

Considering the issues of land rehabilitation after tin mining in this province, efforts are needed for the conservation of biodiversity and the management of biological resources, including the search for economically valuable genetic resources in the post-mining era, both on land and at sea. Such efforts will certainly require research that is capable and skilled in the field of biological sciences."

The Biology Study Program at UBB began to establish its existence under the coordination of the Faculty of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Biology, with the issuance of the Minister of National Education's decree through the Directorate General of Higher Education No. 52/D/O/2006 dated April 12, 2006. Following the establishment of Bangka Belitung University as a state university in 2010, the Biology Study Program continued to enhance its potential, evidenced in 2015 when it became the first study program at Bangka Belitung University to receive 'B' accreditation based on BAN-PT No. 004/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/I/2015."

Currently, the Biology Study Program at UBB is accredited 'UNGGUL' based on LAMSAMA No.132/SK/LAMSAMA/Akred/S/XII/2024, valid from Desember 16, 2024, to Desember 15, 2026.
